“So enjoyed meeting Lela as her journey to a new school was approaching. Changing to a different school is a frequent challenge for children and their parents.

The author’s creativity with using the tree, sun, tiger and bird helped Lela find her way to just be herself. As a parent and retired pediatrician/neonatologist I applaud the author taking on this challenge as so often children are faced with many changes, and we as parents and grandparents can share this book’s message with them.

The illustrations are extremely well done.”

“5 out of 5 stars Beautiful book for all!

While Michael Rosen’s ‘I Just Want To Be Me’ holds a wise and lovely affirmation for youngsters, it’s also affirming to those adults reading it.

Wonderfully illustrated, it’s a joy to visit again, and again.”

“As a retired teacher, but also having had young children and grandchildren, I think this book will help children learn to be content with themselves as the girl in the story Lela imagines her life as other things such as a tree, the sun, a bird, and so forth as she is preparing to attend a new school. Lela is shown the lives of each of the entities, and in the end, Lela realizes she just wants to be herself. Boys and girls will both like it.

It’s a short story written in poetic prose with pictures on every page. The illustrations are beautiful! I think ages 6-8 would like this, but younger children would like the story being read to them. This is a very positive book that could help children who may have insecurities or ever wondered about their place in the world.

This would make a wonderful gift for a young child or even for libraries. I give this book 5 stars!”
